Today in Manhattan court: ADA asked for $7500 bail on misdemeanor shoplifting case. Accused person’s last warrant was from 1992. @ManhattanDA - why are your ADAs not following your new “bail reform” policy?! #EyesOnDAs

I don't think it's about the bondsman since most people don't bond out. I believe they know plea bargains are a harder sell when people aren't caged pre-trial. If half of the people stopped taking pleas, it would bankrupt the entire system..

This defendant has a warrant history and no respect for the law. What makes you think he’ll just come back? Putting a reasonable Bail of 7500.00 on him will insure his return to court. Most criminals don’t screw their families over by not appearing and forfeiting their money!
