The fact that there are private firefighters is just unbelievable. What they only allowed to put out fires of billionaires? Smh.

Shame on you for trying to spin this in a positive way.
-
Well if you think about it, this frees up public firefighters who are already spread thin to help other areas where people can't afford private help, and all at no extra costs to the state, while still slowing down the spread of the fire. It's kinda a win win
-
That’s a pretty shallow understanding of the bigger problem at hand and that’s climate issues getting this band aid that is wealth and the reiteration that climate affects poor people disproportionately.
-
Weather patterns are only proving to be more destructive right? Are only wealthy people protected from that wrath? What if people like Kim and Kanye (and other extremely wealthy people) paid more taxes and we had better resources to deal w climate change?
-
Well considering they paid to prevent this fire, something that the fire department would have otherwise have had to delt with at a significant cost in work and equipment, that's kind of what happened lol
-
Also, I don't think asking people to pay more taxes changes anything when the government pretty much misuses the money anyways and doesn't impose regulations that could help improve the climate due to special interest groups, etc.
-
apt to use the analogy that the arsonists who burn down gov by starving it of resources then try to become the firefighters. govt crippled because people like kim/ kanye & cos like apple don’t pay taxes. not other way around.
-
They pay tons in taxes, but no more than they're legally required too, same as everyone else. You don't write an extra check to the IRS either I imagine. California collects tons of tax revenue, more so than most states. The money is simply misused and missallocated

Why would any fire fighters be privately available to anyone at a time like this
-
For one thing, ex-convicted people can't be firefighters despite having the experience. That and some firefighters can only work 6 months within a year or else the Government will have to list them as full time employees.
-
so you’re saying maybe they hired ex-convicts? That would make sense...except I would assume they would want ppl w/ official fire fighter training...which ex-convicts can’t get, right? the 6mo thing makes sense, I jst assumed all CA firefighters would be working for the public rn
-
They train and use prisoners for fire fighting. This also includes female inmates. They were deployed during the fires last year. Probably out here again..
-
Dont forget these inmates who are trained to fight fires are not even able to get a job as a firefighter when their out because of their record. The system just abuses our inmates

Private fire fighters? Never heard of such a thing
-
Fire stations in America started off as private, individual enterprises. They used to actually brawl with one another to determine who would get to put a certain fire out, while the fire kept burning in the background.

Listening to
@thedollop is a great way of learning American history that's not taught in schools! It's pretty hilarious too! -
They have over 300+ episodes it seems! I haven't found the firefighter episode YET but I found a couple to get me through my commute home tonight.
-
It's episode 138. And yeah, they have a lot of episodes because they are that good! I still have not been able to get through all myself!
