Interesting! I *used to be* a really good cross-country runner. My strategy was to go near-full sprint for the first 5-10 mins, get a good lead, then pace it and recover. You lose some of the lead during pacing it, but be recover enough to sprint the final leg.pic.twitter.com/yNq49WP8Q7

I used to run like you did but usually I ran too fast over the 1st 1-3 km and struggles to recover at all, heck I sometimes even have to stop after 15 minutes or so while regular training. Perhaps that’s why I never reached under 55 minutes for 10K or <2:25 for half-marathons.
