What makes me wonder is while such ideas have been around for decades, why no-one else tried it when all-weather, ~24 hours seeing capability are as hot as it can be today. Why didn’t, say, the US put one over the Middle East?

Launch success has been confirmed with T-0 at 15:36 UTC. And....as later news reported it's named TJSW-6.
SAST was reported as the sat manufacturer, which most likely rules out the GEO SAR theory for this one (it's apparently by CAST) & matches w/ this being yet another of the TJSW early warning sats built by them.pic.twitter.com/BVivm1MYhx
