I don't know if NASA/JPL filed an official response back then, but w/ babbles on Chang'e 5 lunar samples still on, this matter is only going to get worse. We most advocate return to relatively normal US-China space exploration cooperation, but such things still bears mind. (7/8)
More on my personal fear in a few days after the next major Chinese spaceflight event, but it's literally impossible these days on reporting on such things w/o touching political consequences. It's much different from disserting on Soviet space news by TASS way back then. (8/8)

Take a look on the other side it might be bright, back in 1993 the Yinhe incident produces beidou constellation (many claim this should be Chinese narrative, but who knows) and now another operational DSN coming up online, it is just excited to see another path of tech tree.
