The next Long March 3B from Xichang has been spotted on pad. This one launching GF-14 ~Dec. 6 is reported to be in the "G5" sub-variant w/ 4.2 m fairing & separate IU for LEO/SSO launches, a first for the LM-3 series. Meanwhile w/ tracking ships YW-6 tracked in the Timor Sea north of Australia & YW-3 in SE Indian Ocean, it looks like Long March 4C launches may resume soon after reported standing down in October, including YG-31-02 "Chinese NOSS" from Jiuquan & something SSO from Taiyuan.
Despite Xichang always having polar orbit access (to the north), the only 2 polar orbit launches from there till now were both in 2004 w/ the Long March 2C & SY-1/2 small sats to SSO, at a time when other pads at Jiuquan/Taiyuan were closed for renovation. I'm always amazed at how long the CZ-3B/E looks! What does "IU" mean? "Inertial Unit"?
