Is the core stage engine lit up at lift-off or shortly before booster separation like the Titan III and IV? Why does it look like the core engine is not running when launched?

They are firing. If you look closely you can see a mach diamond, much like one from an RS-25 or space shuttle engine. The core stage uses 2 YF-77 engines which are very efficient hydrolox engines. One is in front of the other so it kinda looks like just one.
