Not sure. Wasn't Ariane 1 first stage heavier?
So I guess the big size of the Falcon 9 1st stage is what caused the parachute recovery method to be non feasible back several years ago.... (thermodynamics)

This was also made of steel and not aluminium. Unlike the lighter Ariane 1 second stage or Falcon 9, which both use aluminium.

Not just that. Note they also attempted parachute recovery of Falcon 1. Part of it is that I believe they're also using like a ballute or something and added a bunch of TPS to Electron (and RCS for stage orientation, which Falcon 1 didn't have).

Electron has more surface area compared to its mass. So the re-entry heat is distributed over a larger area. It is also a bit slower I think, but I'm not sure.

It is also shorter, which decreases the bending loads that the tanks walls have to sustain during re-entry.
