Tonight's Vega failure is the 9th failed orbital launch attempt in 2020 - the worst year since 1971 in that respect.
Worth noting that 4 out of these 9 are 1st flights of brand new rockets (LauncherOne, Astra Rocket, Chinese LM-7A & KZ-11). This may explain the higher rate (not to say a 5th is from the always unreliable Iranians).

Also worth noting, Astra was not anticipated making orbit. It was more like the test coming up on Starship SN8 but without an ability to reland.

Really not. SN8 is way way short of the delta-V for orbit (at least as configured for the upcoming test). Astra was in principle close.
