For Delta IV I was talking about the Boeing spying on Lockheed Martin scandal in the 2000s that ultimately caused some EELV contracts for Delta IV to be transferred to Atlas V as penalty.

From what I can tell the Delta II folks took a lot of pride in what they did. There’s a story of how some of the old timers who’d been there since the Douglass Aircraft days guarded the sign outside the SLC-2 gate so Boeing wouldn’t change it before the transition date. :P
