Well after all those problems and/or long developments with people carrying spacecraft in recent years (Dragon, Starliner, Orion, SS2, New Shepard, even Shenzhou around 2000) never assume spacecraft w/ people can be made easily.

They’re putting a lot of money on the table to achieve this goal. Hopefully Chandrayaan-2 taught them a lesson, and they’re gonna be very careful about the Gaganyaan program. The fact that they plan two inhabited flights is already pretty reassuring.

Not with their talks of flying them by December 2020 and July 2021 though, and there were even talks of replacing the 1st stage engines of GSLV-III of these flights with the new RP-1 powered SCE-200 (!).

I am not up to date with the ISRO manned program but how many IFA tests have they done?

None. One pad abort though in 2018, but I'm not sure that capsule is close to the real thing (it uses a traditional "escape tower".

Ethiopia is now a space power (unmanned.) More and more players are joining the game. *Naturally* there will be disasters. It's the price of making progress. People accept the risk because they know the benefits are huge. Time pressures will cause accidents as in the past.
