A puzzling question in my mind lately: Why didn't the Russians made use of more solid rocket motors on space launch vehicles designs in recent years despite having SRM ICBM/SLBM for decades? I know about START and that's it... @RussianSpaceWeb @nicolas_pillet

My take: their biggest solids are the Topol series, right? Which was converted to the Start space launcher. Which is a pretty small space launcher. Big solids are hard. ( Biggest solid core stage orbital LVs are Vega and PSLV, unless and until LM Omega flies...)
I was thinking more on the SRBs side, but thanks. There's also more general synergy between big SRMs and smaller designs for missiles, though I don't know how close they are related.

You could imagine using Topol cores as SRBs on the side of an Angara core e.g.; but that would require MITT and Khrunichev to work together.
