Saw a good quote from someone the other day that basically said if you aren't doing something new with a new smallsat launcher, don't bother.
To be frank, I still think the small launch vehicle market is bubbling and I just can't see more than 2 US (or US-related) new small rocket LSPs surviving the near term.

My bet is on
@RocketLab and@Virgin_Orbit. They are the players with the most advanced (in terms of development history) and the one with the most solid funding available respectively, AFAIK. - Antworten anzeigen

It’s impossible to say if it’s bubbling or not yet when there’s only one operational smallsat launch vehicle at the moment. When VirginOrbit, Relativity and Firefly start launching we’ll see what the market for such vehicles truly is.

Well, the room is already very crowded with Generation Orbit, Astra Space (dunno how far they are given the secrecy) and Vector theoretically also in the run, plus more that I can't remember. Then you have the Europeans (maybe 1-2 w/ real chances) & the Chinese...

Pretty sure that Firefly is gonna be fine. They have a very steady source of funding (which I don't like, but that's another story) + they aim at 1000+ kg market while most of the upcoming small rocket startups go for smaller (duh) payloads
