Come to think about it, were there any research on what reflective surface makes a satellite brighter than others? The old Iridium Flares (now gone) were caused by a special reflector on the sats, yet no other satellites had such bright reflections. @planet4589 @Marco_Langbroek
One more thing - I think we all are surprised that the Starlink sats can easily reach mag. 2-4 consistently around the terminator given their size. Other similar LEO comsats (e.g. the new ones of @IridiumIR) are barely visible to the naked eye even under favorable passes.
Could it be that the "plate" configuration of these satellites caused stronger reflection of sunlight towards the Earth? 
Also one tangential question: we have had lots of novels, movies, animations, games on a future with lots of things orbiting around Earth or another planet, but I've yet to see one that predicted new artifical fast-moving stars in the night sky. Are there any examples of that?
