2/2 The Soviets feared Shuttle & even tried to copy/improve on it. We saw some Lukashevich-type reactions, tho processed thru official Soviet outlets such as Radio Moscow. Apparent criticism was OK if it served a political purpose - of course that became common after '84 (Gorby).
