It turns out that with 34 launches aimed at orbit out of 39 Chinese ones, the Long March 2/3/4 series - all sharing common engines in the 1st/2nd/booster stages from the DF-5 ICBM - has flown more than the Atlas in any calendar year to orbit (record was 33 in 1966). (1/3)
It also beat the even busier Thor-Delta family to orbit in every year but 1962 (38, then 33 in 1965). If the sources I checked are correct, the only other rocket family that can beat 34/yr is the R-7 (though in that case every year between 1965-1990, w/ 63 in 1980). (2/3)
