This image from @Astro_Alex seems to confirm the LES was used with the crew. If that is true, this is the first time a LES has been used on a crewed mission after takeoff.

There are two types of LES solid motors on the Soyuz (and Shenzhou - both uses fairings during ascent) - those on the LES tower and others on the fairing itself. In this case the later ones were used as the tower was separated a few seconds before that.

Im not too sure about that. Tower sep usually occurs post Booster sep, but the abort seemed to occur as that was happening. Still, glad the crew is OK, no matter which system was used.
