I’ve seen people bring it up themselves, ask you questions, get upset by your (calm, polite) answers, then call you extreme and preachy more times than I’ve seen you even bring it up in the first place. Keep it up!

Well done, you're exactly correct on the psychology. That stupid joke 'how do you know if someone's a vegan?' is a perfect example - simply an ultra-flimsy justification to dismiss the subject outright because many people don't want to even question their own habits

Gotta love it when someone who murders animals for taste pleasure calls you an extremist. Talk about deep-seated indoctrination.

Alex, I think you'd really enjoy these couple of pages from Schopenhauer pinning our indifference to animal suffering on monotheistic religion: https://archive.org/details/23341891SchopenhauerParergaAndParalipomenaV2/page/n377/mode/2up … - 'It might truly be said that men are the devils of this earth and animals the tortured souls.'

Sincere question: When we learn that all plants feel pain and suffering, will it have been more moral to eat them believing that they didn't do those things? (It's a hypothetical, mostly. We didn't know plants communicated 20 years ago, so... Who knows?)
-
Why is it about pain? If one covertly anesthetizes a friend, then it's okay to eat them?
