OMG folks, guess what. My telescope is being set up outside right now and there will be observing (and some photography of the space things!) I'm soooo happy!

When in the region, you can't go past the sting in Scorpio's tail - the two bright blue giant stars: Lesath and Shaula. These Class B monsters roam near each other (~180 light years) but are not a double star system.

Lesath roars with 24,000 times the luminosity of our Sun, and Shaula even higher - 79,000 times! Their bright blue light, the result of burning much hotter than our Sun, is easily noted in these images.

And finally, the Ptolemy Cluster. Another
#StarCluster that is beautiful and near the galactic centre. First recorded in the 2nd century, by the Greek-Roman astronomer Ptolemy - this cluster contains about 80 massive stars, located about 980 light years away#Astrophotographypic.twitter.com/RZHH3y4V6x

Was even able to capture some video zooming into the Ptolemy Cluster. Nothing special, but remember - this is all capturing photos from 980 light years away, on an iPhone.

That it ... end of the excellent Astrophotography session tonight. It was cold and a little bit awkward trying to do all that with crutches and a broken leg, but still enjoyed it very much! /thread
