1/6 I've somehow made it 1 year through my pre-doc position without getting fired. To celebrate, I'll share a little write-up I made for those just starting. Recent grads and might find it helpful. This is based on my specific experience.

Thanks for the share! Note, a caveat here is that the effect depends on being honest (i.e., telling employers about the online degree)... that definitely limits any strong conclusions.

New evidence that online degrees are less valuable than in-person degrees in the labor market. This is intuitive to me, but it is useful to have evidence. Should be sent to all college administrators (who seem to be plowing forward full tilt in expanding online programs).

It's striking that over 50 years ... and much sound and fury between political parties... federal spending has roughly stayed constant as a percentage of GDP.

The deficit, of course, has not stayed constant

Sorry for shameless self-promotion but I am incredibly proud on this: today, ~10y after conducting the first pre-tests, published our paper „The Formation of Prosociality: Causal Evidence on the Role of Social Environment“

When we launched six years ago, I fretted about not offering a clear path to leaders in ed-prep who wanted to work with us (and we in turn learn from them). From this, the Impact Academy was born. Forgive my bias but it's one of the best things we do at .

Very interesting paper! I have been trying to publish my first "no effect" paper over the last year and a half. Interestingly, two of our four rejection letters so far started with sentences along the lines of "I am not rejecting this paper because it does not find an effect"

I have a new report out today about the impact of teachers' grading standards on high school student outcomes. Here's a quick summary 1/

this is consistent with what I call dynamic-differential grade inflation in my report: relationship between grades and test scores has been changing over time, but at different rates in different types of schools.

It's easy to predict how high income high schools would lower grading standards even further if HS GPA were given more weight in the admissions process.

Attended the CALDER conference last year and the panels were fantastic. Also, great food, one of the best yogurts I've ever had, certainly the best at a meeting! Planning on being there again this year!

Turns out there's a bunch of lit out there on doctors using the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. I'm digging in and I need a stiff drink.
