The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I'm glad he's safe.
To those in Congress who don't feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention.

I’m sorry, r u saying that hanging someone by a rope is not considered a crime in the US? Hate or otherwise, when you take a being and willfully hang them - that is hate! Murder! What is there to debate? Unless they want a loop hole for their future intentions. Yes Pun intented!

Murder is a state crime which means only a state can prosecute. By making Lynching a hate crime it becomes a Fed crime so that the federal gov't can prosecute. This means the Feds can take over for a state reluctant to prosecute and may mean a harsher punishment for the crime.

It is incomprehensible to me that in 2019 we still haven''t passed an Anti-Lynching bill. Any care to explain that???

It's not a "modern-day lynching" though — just a straight attempted lynching.
