I think all the corvids were in the accelerated class in bird school. One of my favorites is Clark’s Nutcracker, which maintain GIS-level maps in their heads.

From Wikipedia Canada jays adapt to human activity in their territories and are known to approach humans for food, inspiring a list of colloquial names including "lumberjack", "camp robber", and "venison-hawk". More here if you’re interested. :-)

Corvid cousins, aren’t they adorable. You’ll have to go to North America to see them. Like other corvids, Canada jays may mimic other bird species, especially predators. Calls include a whistled quee-oo, and various clicks and chuckles.

I love her and I hate her at the same time! She is always the first to notice me hiding in the bushes and give such a scream that all the animals around are aware that there is an invader! 🤨 Eurasian jay - Garrulus glandarius

If there’s a cold snap before Spring this year and you get a glimpse of someone who could just be a nutcracker, drop by the Nord University website for a quick ID comparison The shiny white vent on a nutcracker in flight is quite distinctive.

On rare occasions, when food sources are in short supply locally, these lovely Corvids visit our shores. In 1968 over 300 nutcrackers visited Britain as part of a larger irruption into western Europe, probably due to a spell of early cold weather in Siberia. Not a starling.👇

During the summer months birds require high protein foods, especially during their moult. During cold winter weather birds will benefit from high-energy foods, which will help them to survive frosty nights. Feeding Wild Birds In The Winter

Hooded crows can be found in N and W Scotland, N Ireland & on the Isle of Man. Outside the breeding season it is found across the breeding range & is also found in E Scotland and even rarer down the eastern side of England. Most of the winter visitors come from Scandinavia.
