trying to get some money so I can go to a con with a friend.
If you want something more like some of the other work I do then I can do that, but it'll likely cost more.
The thing I've noticed most artist tend to be poor at is perspective. I've even seen it in a lot of professionals that seem to struggle with it.
I try to pay attention to my perspective for that reason.
And I draw a ton of boxes. I should practice other shapes tbh.
Only thing I can see ai taking over is like coloring of animation.
Tho it'd still need to be checked over by an actual person to make sure there are no errors.
It's not replacing a key animator or even the in-betweener for a looooong looooong time.
BG art, design, ect too.
Bet this is like the self driving cars that they said would replace real people in 5 years like 12 years ago.
People that make the claim ai will replace artists any time soon either aren't artists or don't actually understand ai.
Straight up fuck this man and this article and anyone who tries to say some shit about how AI “won’t replace jobs” but also the “lmao get a real job” attitude of this article is so off putting
Why AI will NOT steal your job (at least not right now)
So recently I did a bunch of experiments with ai to see what it's limitations were and what it could be used for. Also to see if it could do my job for me as so many people are afraid it will.
tldr is - no, it can't.
Oh and the images used here were all either made completely by me or generated using stable diffusion. I think it should be clear which stuff is ai and which is actually made by a person (me) but if it's not I can clarify further.
It tends to work better on things that can be "messier" so like landscapes or backgrounds it works pretty well on. But characters or people? not so much.
Anything that requires some amount of precision it just can't really do very well.
Anyways, that's all.
3. When you feel stuck on a piece if you throw it in the ai it can generate some ideas you can, again, use as inspiration.
I know some people are also using it for making textures for 3D models. I can't really think of a downside to that one provided you can make them big.
2. Inspiration, sometimes it can be hard to find good inspiration for an art piece that you're working on. AI can be a good way to generate things that can be used as inspiration for your own drawings (tho I think finding better art is usually preferable)
I think there are only a few use cases with ai
1. For people who cannot draw this can help them realize their ideas. Not perfectly but imperfect realization is better than no realization
If you put poorly drawn things into it they'll probably be improved.
Ignoring that it works about as well as the text to image generations. It looks ok at first glance... But you look closer and you see problems (hair is strange looking, legs got messed up and the hands... always the hands. The face worked only because the original was "melty").
This next one I actually did get some interesting results, again it's a completely different style and I suppose if it's an improvement is a matter of taste. Certainly where it tries to push it wasn't what I was going for with it style wise.
If I'd wanted it to look this way I would have painted it as such. Of course that's just the shading, the arm itself and hand is just completely destroyed. (along with the rest of the drawing really)
Moving on, I tried it on a few other illustrations I've made to see what the results would be. This first one it just can't handle and makes worse no matter what. The metal shading on the arm looked fine in them however, tho is it an improvement? idk it's mostly just different.
If you try to make a pink anime girl in a space suit u're probably going to get something like these. There are some interesting things in the designs, but notice the things like the chest circles? That design element just shows up a lot for some reason. Again, idk why.
Okay, but how about generating designs from a text prompt?
Well I attempted to get this character to show up, or something close to her at least. It got the general idea but I noticed the designs had a lot of very similar elements.
Everything generated with AI has a "melted" sort of feeling to it). And if you turn up the denoise slider it just draws a completely different character (in this case it tries to turn my character into Cirno (also for some reason it doesn't know what a sailor uniform is)
The AI likes to draw the same thing so anything you put into it it tends to pull out what made them unique, but even aside from that it also just fucks up the drawing- making like the eyes or hands melty (or anything else for that matter. -
So let's take a look at giving it drawings to "enhance".
I put in various characters I've designed to see if it could improve them in any way and perhaps unsurprisingly - no it couldn't.
Moving on there's more production type work, such as art for games, tv shows, or anything else of that sort. How does ai come into play there? Can it take the job of a concept artist or w/e?
Again, not really.
I already explained the "specificity" issues -
Sometimes if you're luck it will draw a famous character (for some reason it likes to draw Cirno from Tohou) But for the most part it just wont. I tried to get it to draw Gawr Gura but to no avail. If someone wants their oc drawn good luck.
For that reason alone it would be very unlikely to replace artists taking commissions except in cases where the client just want's basically *any* pretty picture. Want something specific? Yeah you're gonna need an actual artist. ai just won't cut it.
It's heavily biased to certain types of scenes and poses. For some reason it really likes to show the torso, sometimes cutting everything else out. Not sure why.
Notice in these two images the head and legs are cut off? yea that happens a lot. (or it draws a face)
Firstly, let's start with what it can do.
If you put the right prompt in it will generate a pretty picture (on first glace at least, closer inspection there's a lot that is... off in most cases).
Yes sometimes it poops out flawless images, but it's rare.

Oh ya boards. This cut never fully made it into animatic so there’s no sound. But don’t worry, i gotchu, it went something like this: Pewpewpew BOOM ching BLAM voooo! ACK! Whoosshh HOTSOUUPP! Bleeehhhh~ #RiseoftheTMNTmovie#RiseoftheTMNT
