Thousands of open source projects are being used by Palantir to help ICE carry out human rights abuses. And we're naming names. Tear down the wall at https://icebreaker.dev/  #NoTechForICE

I fully support this and am glad that someone's put together this list. But can we please change the font color so it's readable? :(pic.twitter.com/YYRX8zpZN9

That was the result of a typo trying to fix a dark mode issue… thanks for pointing it out! The fix is going up right now.

Hi Coraline, I don't know if you're maintaining the site or in touch with those who are, but the white text on light grey background is almost unreadable for me, and probably also for other people. I would encourage adjusting the text styling to be more accessible.

This sounds backwards. Are we now blaming open source projects authors/maintainers/contributors themselves for the real-world use of their work? Can’t we stick to blaming whoever is building evil software in the first place, and their (ab)use of OSS principles for evil means?

+100 Naming/shaming the random open source things while not doing anything about palantir itself (or its employees and contractors) seems backwards and cowardly

Is there an open source license which explicitly states that the software can't be used to build tools which result in human rights violation ?

There are licenses which include that kind of restriction, but they're not open source, since they're incompatible with criteria (5) or (6) from the OSD.

The use of free/open software must be ethical, no matter how stupid this idea may sound. #EthicalCode #SafeAI #OpenSource #HumanFirts

Problem with ethical is that, in general, it's ambiguous. Is it ethical to use it to overthrow oppressive regimes? Is it ethical to suppress terrorism? These two things can coexist in a country and be the opposing forces.
