AR glasses designs are currently locked into a flawed idea that they should look like sunglasses.
Doesn't work.
Whoever is first to launch something akin to 2000s era clamshell rainbow macbook "cyber" aesthetic will win. With this you might even get away with a battery pack.

If XR tools were designed and distributed the same way 2D image creation tools and early 3d rendering tools were 30 years ago. There would be a more varied selection of XR experiences. XRs current dilemma is due to the platform makers desire to control all of the medium.

Feels similar to clean tech in 2000s. There's an initial exuberance (AR in 2016-17), followed by a contraction & winter, and then finally the tech & adoption catches up to initial expectations "over night" and everyone who hasn't been watching closely plays catch up.

- AR on Snap alone has 250M DAUs
- Pokemon GO doing $1.2BN in revenue
- Unreal & Unity SDKs enabling new competitors
- Glasses & passthrough ready to expand mrkt
AR enables anything digital to become tangible.
