TBH I'm a little dissatisfied with my last couple videos. I mean I think they're good—professional, up to my standard of writing, founded on good research. But they're too cautious, and not really what I want to do on YouTube.
I've gotten too skittish. I've let Twitter get to me. I've started taking directions from my audience. And as a result I've done a few videos that, while still produced to the best of my ability, were motivated by meeting a demand, not by any genuine inspiration on my part.
In particular, I did the videos on capitalism largely because I got 50 comments a day saying "talk about capitalism." And I do think it's an important topic, I'm glad I did something on it. But economic analysis is not really what I'm good at. It doesn't excite me.
I think people who are fans of a thing have an idea of what they want from that thing that isn't necessarily what they actually want. Probably they don't yet know what they want, so it's the creator's job to tell them what they want and then give it to them.
There's a place for feedback too, obviously, but other people can't tell me what inspires me. People think they want a million-part series on capitalism from me, but I'm telling you right now that there are other things I can do much better than that.
So this spring and summer I want to go back to following my heart for a while, and return to my roots producing psychedelic, over-costumed, hypersexual trash. Let's get real weird with this.

I absolutely agree. Didn't think I'd sit through 50 minutes on a topic I knew nothing about, and at 11PM to boot, but I got completely caught and learned a lot. Audience think they know what they want, but love it when they get what they actually need.

I think that is probably just the case because you don't find the videos themselves controversial and that may be true because you don't directly interface with the opposing side but rather just lay out yours very clearly. But I think your Capitalism Pt. 2 was a really cool video
