On the other hand, when I describe the experience of passing to some cis people, they look at me with what I take to be a mixture of confusion and pity. This is especially true of cis people who knew me before I transitioned. & I sometimes get unambiguously clocked by strangers.

When I started to transition I started taking pictures of myself regularly regardless of the fact that I didn't let myself get photographed more than a couple of times in 15 years. I know I don't look great. I know I have a long way to go...

But seeing that progress from a year and a half ago has done so much for those feelings even if it reinforces how much longer I have. Does that make sense?

For me personally, working in Boystown with lots of LGBT people, gay men and lesbians, trans people of all sorts has been so liberating. My best advice is to try to find where the LGBT people are at near you. There's something about being around lots of LGBT people that helps

useless cis comment #74: i have many of the same feels. you're so brilliant, so likable, and this self-hatred of physical traits (which is all too familiar) seems in part a factor of over-tuned self-awareness. IAC your openness is really humbling. i hope things get easier

Completely unsolicited advice (obviously): 1) Therapy helps (if you're not already doing that, of course) & 2) regular, simple vipassana-style meditation with an aim toward analyzing & regulating thoughts/emotions helps. It's not a panacea, but it helps. I hope you feel better.
