Peterson's obscurantism is no worse than what is the standard style for critical theory. Humanities scholars have wasted decades on pointless studies of people who are essentially the Continental leftist equivalents of Jordan Peterson.
Peterson interfaces well with the general public, and that's a condition of his success. Compare with the utterly useless Foucault scholars, cloistered away, doing nothing whatsoever to educate the pubic about inequality or injustice.
maybe a bit harsh on the ~Foucault scholars~ there, considering the structures of academia that demand some self-cloistering for professors to have any shot at job security... and the fact of Peterson's rather accidental stumbling into the spotlight lol

I keep getting incredibly frustrated that intelligent, reasonable criticism of bad lefty politics, philosophy, and social science keeps getting derailed by people like Peterson. He has a *few* good points but it keeps getting ruined by his rotten personality.
Still troubled all the mainstream attention for him I've seen recently talks about the appeal of his "ideas" when it's obvious the core of his audience is drawn by having a Very Smart Man™ explain why their own worst impluses are actually "biologically correct."
Whenever someone brings up foucault in a discussion about prison I know they are about to hit the audience with a truckload of obscure jargon while saying precisely nothing that offers any possibility for thinking about alternatives or taking collective action.
