As an ex-academic, I also feel intensely the author's sense that leftist academia bears a lot of responsibility for the absolute wasteland that North American political discourse has become—the environment where Peterson became a superstar.
Peterson's obscurantism is no worse than what is the standard style for critical theory. Humanities scholars have wasted decades on pointless studies of people who are essentially the Continental leftist equivalents of Jordan Peterson.
Thanks for this. Peterson is quite the seducer, and even though he mostly just regurgitates Jung under a conservative perspective he sure knows how to sell his discourse. I listen to him with my critical shields up, lest I be seduced too.

He's a great public speaker and a mediocre to bad intellectual.

I had to re-read it several times it was so flush with puffery. It's like viewing an elderitch horror made entirely out of italics.
I knew he had to be kook since anytime someone tries to explain to him where he's wrong on a law like c-16 or on some basic facts on biology and evolution (like PZ Myers) he retreats until someone comes along with a weaker argument so he can attack it. He never answers critics.
I think the only real prescription for folks like him is to ignore him and not give him any room to talk. You can't deal with folks like him the same way you can someone who has an argument with in/valid points. He'll just suck up the attention & leave nothing.
