So probably all my intuitions about race and racism are wrong, I just assume that. In this next video I try to stick to discussing objective facts that anyone ought to be able to comment on, and I avoid discussing anything more experiential.
That said, if there comes a point where I'm being too fucking white and I need to stop making videos about race, just let me know and I'll stop lol.
Interestingly, no one ever calls me racist these days. It's been like six months since I've heard that from anyone, which is sort of remarkable considering how often "TERF" and "transphobe" have been directed at me.
I think maybe the bar for white people has just been set really fucking low.
(Re first tweet in this thread) I'm not saying race is a matter of psychological identity or anything like that. The analogy is: As being cis tends to make you oblivious to trans issues, being white tends to make you oblivious to race issues.
As much as it pains me to say it though, we need white allies, lol. The exact same argument made by a PoC could sound "preachy" to a centrist/liberal white person, but another white person making those arguments would sound completely normal and reasonable.
Nothing you've said so far about race has made me particularly uncomfortable (even if some of your N@zi gags are a little on-the-nose, lol). I'd trust you to handle this issue with the appropriate level of care.
White people should be talking about racism tbh, y’all are in a unique position to do so and good work can and has been done. And honestly you shitting on “scientific” racists and fashy bros is some of the best stuff on YouTube
I dunno... Usually, the person best equipped to teach on any topic is the person who most recently completed a lot of study on that topic, because the transition from ignorance to awareness is still fresh in their memory.
Consequently, they're the most aware of what will be most surprising to people who are less informed.
