I'm much more reluctant to discuss race than I used to be, I think as a result of seeing how easy it is for cis people to fuck up talking about trans people, and being aware (very loosely speaking) that whiteness is the cisgender of race.
So probably all my intuitions about race and racism are wrong, I just assume that. In this next video I try to stick to discussing objective facts that anyone ought to be able to comment on, and I avoid discussing anything more experiential.
That said, if there comes a point where I'm being too fucking white and I need to stop making videos about race, just let me know and I'll stop lol.
Interestingly, no one ever calls me racist these days. It's been like six months since I've heard that from anyone, which is sort of remarkable considering how often "TERF" and "transphobe" have been directed at me.
I think maybe the bar for white people has just been set really fucking low.
(Re first tweet in this thread) I'm not saying race is a matter of psychological identity or anything like that. The analogy is: As being cis tends to make you oblivious to trans issues, being white tends to make you oblivious to race issues.

yeah, that's what i meant when I said that contra should feature POC voices in her video. the "leaders" of the internet left shouldn't shy away from talking about race just because they happen to be white, but they should also do it it in a responsible way. --
ie. directly/explicitly reference POC voices, feature POC directly in videos, etc.
you're right, i wasn't aware of them. i think my point still stands though - everybody on the left knows who contra, hbomb, and shaun are as far as i can tell. these people, not so much. def gonna check em out though, thanks fam
