Trans bashing is popular, and that makes it an excellent opening move for social conservatives who want to endear themselves to a wider audience.

This never would've worked the other way round. A U of T professor who said that women were inviting sexual harassment by wearing makeup would've been widely and immediately condemned. But refusing to bend a knee to the powerful non-binary agenda: we can all sympathize with that.

But we shouldn't sympathize with it. It's just a ploy, an exploitation of mass ignorance and confusion about trans issues to stir up reactionary paranoia. It's a good ploy though.pic.twitter.com/L4dl6LBLCW

thats the thing tho JBP isnt even really that anti-trans. Like sure, he has some wrong ideas about us, but he's mostly chill. what's more important to note is the effect his fairly minor disagreement had on actual transphobes. they were so empowered by it & found new rhetoric.
-
i see less "omg ur mentally ill fetishists" from JBP's type of audience nowadays and a lot more "you cant make me use your language! ree politically motivated reee cultural marxism reeee" kinda stuff.

I got into it with my brother over Jordan Peterson the other day. He was utterly convinced that the Canadian government had tried to turn misgendering into a crime. When I proved to him that this was ridiculous, he regressed to insisting that bullying doesn't hurt anybody.pic.twitter.com/nakrYXKWFg

What's with all these old "intellectual" dudes making their obsession with sex everyone else's problem?

I feel like this is a bit uncharitable. I don't hear him saying women don't belong in the workplace. I hear him saying that we're employing values that simultaneously lead to undesirable outcomes.
-
Whether he's right or not, I don't know, but saying that makeup isn't sexually provocative is inane.

Being weirdly rude to trans people = speaking truth to power and very brave.

If one is going the whole way on this line of eco-psych thinking it could also be true to say that 'men being in charge’ i.e. exhibiting status, is tantamount to sexual display too.
-
It may have some element of truth but it’s not entirely clear where it gets us.
