I'm halfway done with a script for a video about fascism's appropriation of certain contemporary music genres... and I'm worried. I need to use clips from copyrighted songs in order to get this to work, but that could get my video taken down. Am I wasting my time?

If you keep the clips under 7 seconds or so, content ID won't pick it up

That's the idea. Even from just an editing standpoint, it'd be ideal to keep them brief. However, I'm more worried about imageboard cretins flagging it with (arguably) justifiable content claims rather than the ID algorithm.

only the owner of the copyright can do that so that shouldn't be a problem. If they file a copyright complaint I'm pretty sure they have to give their full name. You just have to point out that they don't own the copyright and the claim is dropped

Also if you're commenting on the music then it absolutely is fair use. So all you really have to worry about is Content ID (which doesn't care about fair use)
