My reading of David Icke is that he literally advocates the idea that shapeshifting reptilians from outer space rule human societies. But it is definitely in the field of family resemblances of other Antisemitic tropes.

"Bloodsucking" in particular rings an Antisemitism bell, brings to mind the "Jews drinking Christian blood" trope. Note, however, that "bloodsucking" is also a metaphor Marx uses for capitalists, whom he describes as vampires sucking the blood of labor.

Now there's arguably also an Antisemitic slant to Marx. But things get complicated here, because Antisemitism is so prevalent that there's an Antisemitic variant of just about every political orientation.

A leftist Antisemite can dog whistle Jews as "bankers." A rightist Antisemite can complain about "Cultural Marxism"—Marx, Benjamin, Trotsky were Jewish, that's pretty suspicious.

My personal feeling about the lizard thing is that it's not predominantly Antisemitic. But definitely it's something to be aware of, keep an eye on.

Any metaphor for capitalists potentially risks this association. E.g.https://twitter.com/TheHorrorMaster/status/816486706186596352 …

It makes me endlessly happy david icke had to clarify that a secret cabal of Jews running things is a silly conspiracy, it's actually real shape shifting space lizards

Icke aside, I always thought it was a pretty succinct metaphor for unrestrained capitalism stemming from reptilian brain fears over scarcity and lack of empathy. Excellent video btw

I think the other problem with the lizards is that it otherizes the capitalist class. When otherized in this way it sets up the tap of “if we just kill and replace the right people.” Which is far easier then you know, lasting societal change.
