Here's Sylvia Rivera speaking at a gay liberation event in 1973. Looks like Washington Square Park. She's initially booed because, I'm guessing, even that crown was not down with trans women. But she turns it around by being a badass.#TransDayofRemembrance https://youtu.be/9QiigzZCEtQ

Let's not forget the early radical activists because of the relative ease of being a privileged white trans person in some corners. They made it possible. They're why we're here.

yes. I'm not saying that only women of color face discrimination or are activists. But they did a lot. And as a group, put up with more. That was the point of my post.

In other countries it may be different. But in the US—well, take a look at the pictures of the trans people killed this year. Notice anything? https://www.advocate.com/transgender/2017/11/20/these-are-trans-people-killed-2017#slide-0 …

My point was really just "there's a lot of racism in the trans community, let's not forget the WoC activists who fought for us." I don't get why you're "but what about the white people"-ing this.

People can be bigoted or racist regardless of their own oppression, in fact it's a common thing throughout societies. Often the most ardent racists are those trying to scrap up social value by enforcing a racialist or bigoted hierarchy where they aren't the bottom.
-
Regrettably, bigoted behaviour by individuals that belong to a suppressed group is often generalised and used in the narrative to further suppress that group.

We’re specifically talking about how trans femmes of colour made great, dangerous, bold strides forward for all LGBTQIA+ people in the beginning of the modern western movement, and that there are people in the community whose racism and prejudice tries to downplay that.
-
What I’m suggesting is that maybe in a discussion about racism we don’t centre white people’s feelings
