Custom white balance is a blast

Custom WB and turning off auto-focus and auto-exposure are the most important things in videography imo. 2 mins to make a huge difference

I knew it was there, I just didn't get how you have to do this subtle negotiation between lighting and ISO to get images that are bright enough yet not grainy.

Good lighting will reduce the need for playing with ISO settings. Worth investing in some lights/lamps if you don't already have them. Cheap handhelds can do the job nicely.
