What most of those responses failed to take into account is that a no-second-chances policy means that hiding bad behavior will ALWAYS ALWAYS be preferred over taking responsibility, which then perpetuates future, worse behavior.

Doesn't it also mean that people would think twice before engaging in the behavior in the first place? And up to this point there have been no consequences for repeat behavior. If it happens and you immediately admit it, that's different.

Outcomes-based: Too low a threshold for shunning and you get Moore, too high and you get unpersoned for being "problematic"
