Alright everyone, I've taken a couple days to cool down, and I want to apologize for some of the things I said in the immediate aftermath of the Singal affair.

Right after the profile came out, a lot of critics came after me hard and fast, and my initial experience was very much likepic.twitter.com/PJ4GhMetOA

But it's by no means the case that all or even most of my critics were calling me a traitor or a TERF or any of that shit. Most people had much more measured complaints, and for me to paint them all as a bunch of hysterics was bad and wrong.

I personally have gotten along very well with
@jessesingal. But I fully acknowledge that he's been kind of an asshole to a lot of trans people. And he has a tendency to frame all criticism as a "look how crazy these trans activists are" type narrative.Show this thread -
Which is, in effect, what I myself did when I was criticized for working with him. And that sucks. Because this really isn't a "trans activists are crazy" problem. It's a "some people on Twitter are assholes" problem. And regrettably I'm just another one of those assholes.

So yeah, some people were mean and unfair to me. But in response I was mean and unfair to all of my critics, including many who didn't deserve it. And I'm the one with the spotlight and influence here, so I have a responsibility to be better than that.

I don't want to become like Dave Rubin, who ignores all reasonable criticism but retweets everyone who calls him a Nazi.

So I particularly want to thank those of you who have criticized me in a measured way. I want to listen to what you have to say and I want to try to do better next time something like this happens.
