When you opt out you can subtly gender yourself, which (for me) results in being screened by that gender. 1/2
-
e.g. If no TSA women are there I'll say "I'm going to opt out, if you want to call over a woman for my patdown" as I put my luggage in x-ray

Put your dignity in park, smile politely and get it over quickly. Keep your phone handy and voice/video recording on.

TSA Pre. But you probably don't have time to set that up. So make sure you're well rested and on time so you can take a break and convince yourself that you're a good and worthy person regardless of the opinions of random airline passengers or TSA agents, and then go be polite...

I'd suggest you start by being trans then booking a flight. Should be pretty easy.

1/ The TSA is largely trained for this now but it varies per airport. Go through the machine they will likely want to pat you down cooperate
-
2/ I usually say I'm trans if they notice an issue around my crotch area, they usually give an understanding nod, do their job and move on.

My minimization strategy: opt out. The scan on trans/intersex zeroes TSA in on groin & breasts areas, opting out's patdown is less violating
