I think, to cis people, the desire to transition is so inconceivable that when very young people do it, they assume they must have been coerced by sinister doctors and activists.

And some people start much older than that. Always better late than never!
My incredulity is only at the idea that a 19-year-old who wants to transition should give it another couple decades
