Let's confront the awkward facts head on: I made a very popular video about what it means to be genderqueer, and it turns out I'm probably not genderqueer after all—at least, not in the sense described in that video.

Philosophical explanation of a concept and emotional self-understanding are two different skills, and in the genderqueer video the former is much further along than the latter.

So, I still agree with pretty much everything I said in that video (and feel vindicated by the feedback from many GQ people saying it describes them well). It just no longer applies to me as well as it did when I made the video.

The one truly silly part of the video is where I say I can't transition because I'm tall and have a deep voice. Oh, okay then, well I guess I'll just never be happy and live a lie forever because there are no tall women.

I should clarify that the video does accurately describe my feelings at the time. And I'm very grateful that the category "genderqueer" was there to give me effectively a launching pad for transition.

This is not to say genderqueer is always a stage between binary identities. For some, binary trans identity ends up being a launching pad for the NB identity they later settle on.

I hope that NB/GQ people still like that video, continue using it to explain the concept to others, and don't mind that I've traveled out of their area on my way to binary pastures on the other side.

Replying to @ContraPoints
Well, this NB still recommends the vid as an intro for cis friends, as well as loves your continued work.
