The story arc starts with a male protagonist and ends when he achieves his goal of becoming a woman. And men's stories get more attention.
But this is of course a terrible way to tell the story. It's just a misunderstanding, not even really a story about a trans woman.
My friend summarized it perfectly "Movies portray us as men trying to be women, when we're actually women trying to not be men"
