We would not have Charlottesville, we would not have the Alt-Right as it currently exists without Trump.
Trump exposed as an illusion the idea that white supremacist politics is over.
The article is pretty hopeless in that it doesn't describe any solutions to the problem. But I think a couple can be inferred.
1. It is a mistake to think Democrats can win by placating the "white working class"—by deriding "political correctness," diversity, etc.
2. Instead they should build an anti-racist coalition of most non-white voters and white allies. More Obama, less Clinton/Sanders.
About half of white people and their political representatives implicitly or explicitly support a racial caste system with whites on top.
It just isn't possible to convert or compromise with these people without selling out PoC. Obama tried his best and got nowhere.
At this point I don't know what to do other than treat this group as an obstacle that stands in the way of everyone else.
