yeah, people can be v sensitive. which is why i don't think criticizing people is always the best approach. discussion much more effective.
I guess the question then is how to initiate discussion with people who are that sensitive about it.

But with a guy like Baked Alaska I doubt that something so small provoked him to this extreme unless he had serious underlying racism

Only way is to let them discover it themselves. Suggest books or articles ("you might like __). Some ppl will always fight outside pressure.
