I've never understood the "it's a reminder!" argument. It's like saying we need statues of Hitler ti remind us that the Holocaust was bad.

I was originally all for 'it's history, let it stand, don't forget what came before'.. then I was educated (con)

..educated about how most such statues came long after the civil war as a specific 'Up Yours' (con)

Respectfully disagree. Museums have plenty of artifacts from the period. Melt 'em down and give every black person a "we're sorry" medallion

Or we could melt them down and turn them into statues dedicated to abolitionists, & workers of the Underground Railroad.
