I think how much worse it was for them than anything I have to deal with. Genius jazz musicians treated like servants.
Lynchings, police brutality, mass incarceration. & I think about the beautiful lives lived & astonishing art produced in those circumstances

You can live a good life even when your society basically hates you. You just have to be resilient, ironic, funny, & very very thickskinned.

I think about these resilient people, then I remember that I cried when someone called me worthless in grade two. How do people even manage?
