I'd be interesting to do some digging into the history of the usage of the phrase "Western values." I'm guessing it's pretty recent.

And there's no way that "Western values" has implied "LGBT rights" for more than a decade or two.

This is a recent usage, designed by conservatives to stir up queer xenophobia.

I believe the term came into some use during the Red Scare of 20s/30s, and became reinforced during Cold War.
