I often have to exercise restraint to avoid expressing my hostility toward religion.

I used to be an edgy teenage Voltairean, Hitchensean atheist screechlord. I guess I still am deep inside.

But I have a lot of friends and family who are religious. They are good people. And they will never forsake their religion.

Part of being a participant in an open, diverse society is knowing when and how to suppress your hostility.

Obviously, there will be occasions when it flares up again.

And since religion is not independent of politics or ethics, there are situations where it has to be criticized.
