I often have to exercise restraint to avoid expressing my hostility toward religion.
-
-
Part of being a participant in an open, diverse society is knowing when and how to suppress your hostility.
-
Obviously, there will be occasions when it flares up again.
-
And since religion is not independent of politics or ethics, there are situations where it has to be criticized.
-
But in most situations I find that openly disdaining or mocking religion does absolutely nothing good.
-
I also enjoy appropriating religious aesthetics for my own degenerate purposes.
-
This doesn't endear me to religious people but it does make the Voltaires a little tiresome to me.

I think in convos like this it's also useful to consider ppl with spiritual leanings that aren't necessarily part of an organized religion.
-
Cuz spirituality can be a healthy thing to have and explore and while organized religion has lots of issues, the faith part is not the prob.
