I'm not entirely sure why the conflation is often made when it comes to Islam and Islamophobia. Maybe because the words are too similar.

Also, Islam isn't a race. But anti-Islamic bigotry often comes out as hating on anyone who looks Middle-Eastern. Or Sikh. Or SE Asian.
